Wynn Resorts, has submitted an application to operate online poker in the the US Gambling capital, according to the Nevada Gaming Control Board. Wynn is one of the latest to apply as the state inches closer to the first industry of its kind in U.S. gaming history.
Wynn expressed interest in online poker more than a year ago when it agreed to a partnership with PokerStars. The deal was cancelled after the poker site fell into hot water with the federal government.
Wynn is now in talks with Zynga, Facebook.’s social gaming powerhouse, Forbes reported in late April of this year. Zynga has not applied for a license in Nevada.
Caesars Entertainment Corp. and MGM Resorts International, other Nevada brick-and-mortar giants, have had their respective paperwork in for months. Both companies already have partnerships with established poker sites that will be licensed to offer technology to casinos.
Last week the iGaming Post reported that, the Gaming Control Board approved Internet gaming applications for Bally Technologies, Inc. and International Game Technology. The companies head to the Gaming Commission later this month for final approval, expected date is the 21st June for the hearing.

Mind-blowing Zynga and Wynn?
Social gaming and real-life betting is rapidly becoming a match-made in heaven. It’s recently been exposed that Zynga is in talks with Wynn Resorts about a potential online gambling link between the two. Although none have commented on the matter, it doesn’t stop the rumour mill from running.
At least 20 states are considering legalizing online gambling after the Justice Department reinterpreted a decades-old federal law in December and found it only banned sports betting and not other forms of online gambling. In light of this, Zynga CEO Mark Pincus has said that the firm’s possibilities are “mind-blowing.”
The nypost.com discovered that there could be a few problems that Zynga would encounter. Firstly, Wynn wouldn’t have to be the only partnership.
Among the problems: Most of the proposed state legislation would restrict online licenses to those who already are licensed to run a state gaming operation. Wynn only operates in Nevada.
New Jersey, for instance, has a bill that passed the state Senate and is now in the Assembly that would grant Internet licenses only to those with computer servers based in Atlantic City casinos. “Our goal is to help existing casino operators. We don’t know anything about Zynga,” state Assembly Regulatory Oversight and Gaming Committee Chair Ruben Ramos Jr. told The Post.
Zynga could be moving to the UK, facing fierce competition at the same time.
Indeed, Facebook, which does not want to host online gambling on its own site, has held conversations with UK online bookmakers William Hill and Ladbrokes about offering Facebook users access to their sites, a source said.

Zynga & Wynn partnership?
The CEO of social games developer Zynga gave online gambling a lift on Wednesday, telling the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom conference that online gambling was a ‘natural fit’ for his company’s products..
“I think it’s a good natural fit. I think, philosophically, the part people haven’t noticed yet, real money gaming is the perfect fit with virtual goods & social games,” Marcus Pincus commented, informing his audience that online gambling could bring in an additional billion dollars for his company, & that recent changes in the federal approach to anti online gambling laws, along with Facebook policy changes, could lay the foundations for golden opportunity.
Pincus boasted that Zynga Poker was the largest online poker game on the planet with more than 30 million players, & reiterated that Zynga will soon release other casino-related games like bingo, strengthening its already impressive positioning.
The innovative chief executive also hinted at more casino-related developments, telling the audience that his developers may not be confined solely to traditional gambling games:
“We’re interested, but you should expect to see us do a lot more than what you’ve seen in offshore casinos,” he said. “The amount of innovation you’re going to see around gambling as an entertainment mechanic is going to be mind blowing.”
Pincus also indicated that he was considering possibly partnering with a traditional casino company before the end of this year.
Pincus said his San Francisco-based company sees a great deal of opportunity “to start to bring this gambling element into more than just casino games.”
The Dow Jones newswire reports that Zynga’s CEO suggested the company may partner with traditional casino firms such as Wynn Resorts Ltd.
“We’re definitely talking to all of the players that you would suspect,” Pincus said, adding, “We have incredible respect & admiration for brands & groups like the Wynn… I would expect that you’ll see a lot of these players kind of figure out their go-to-market partnerships for sure before the end of this year.”

PokerStars.com alliance for Wynn Resorts
Land-based casino operator Wynn Resorts Limited has announced a strategic partnership with PokerStars.com that will see the two jointly run a regulated online poker domain for US-based players at PokerStarsWynn.com should Congress ratify federal legislation currently under consideration.
Isle of Man-licensed PokerStars.com is the world’s largest online poker site with more than 40 million members and also operates PokerStars.fr in France, PokerStars.it for Italian players and Estonia’s PokerStars.ee.
“The companies will first work to secure the passage of federal legislation that will finally and conclusively define illegal internet gambling, provide law enforcement with the tools necessary to stop illegal Internet gambling, protect consumers by establishing a robust regulatory environment for the safe operation of online poker by experienced operators and establish a regime for the assessment and collection of taxes,” read a statement from Las Vegas-based Wynn Resorts.
Wynn Resorts owns and operates Wynn Las Vegas Resort and Country Club and Wynn Macau Resort and is listed on the NASDAQ Stock Market. It recently revealed that its net revenues for 2010 had increased 37.4 percent year-on-year to $4.18 billion.
“After much study, we are convinced that the lack of regulation of Internet gaming within the US must change,” said Stephen A. Wynn, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer for Wynn Resorts.
“We must recognise that this activity is occurring and that law enforcement does not have the tools to stop it. As a company that has safely conducted gaming in the US for more than 40 years, we believe that the same can be done for poker on the Internet.
“Additionally, it is time that the thousands of jobs created by this business and the potentially significant tax dollars come home to the United States.”
Congressman John Campbell introduced his Internet Gambling Regulation, Consumer Protection and Enforcement Act to the House of Representatives in Washington, DC two weeks ago and this proposed legislation would, if passed, establish a Federal regulatory and enforcement framework under which online gambling operators would be able to obtain licenses authorising them to accept bets and wagers from individuals in the United States. The measure is being co-sponsored by fellow Congressmen Barney Frank, Peter King and Ed Perlmutter and calls for the ‘implementation of new technologies to prevent underage play and problem gambler abuse’ and would see the Federal government and states given the authority to ‘prevent consumer fraud and generate revenues through taxes that are currently being paid to competing countries’.
“We have long supported the enactment of local regulatory regimes that protect consumers and provide valuable tax revenues and jobs,” said Mark Scheinberg, Chairman for PokerStars.com.
“PokerStars.com is closely regulated in many European countries and it has been endorsing the adoption of the same approach in the United States for years with this alliance representing a critical step in that direction.
“We are excited about the opportunities that partnering with Wynn Resorts, a pioneering leader and innovator in gaming, will present for PokerStars.com in the United States. These opportunities include the rapid ramp-up in hiring of a large numbers of professionals in this growing global technology and services sector that will benefit from US talent to keep up with global demand.”
